Children and Digital media.

In the present,  children live in a media culture. Children use media on their own, without assistance from parents or adults. That much they familiar with media.  However, they should use media with parental approval. But today parents also busy in this  existing system as well. However, parents should give first place for their children. It may help to stop the media addiction of children.

Honestly, I believe that the media is an excellent resource for learning more. There are countless media platforms. like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, You Tube, and more. Parents might advise their kids to watch educational channels where they can learn useful information that will help them enhance their talents.

” Media inspires children to draw, sing and express themselves in other ways. In this sense, the stories and characters in media are not “just a fairy-tale”, but play a huge role in children’s lives.” (Children and media .2017.07)

According to the book,  Media has a greater purpose in children's life than just providing entertainment; it promotes expression and creativity. Children are motivated to draw, sing, and engage with many forms of self-expression by media through stories and characters. It's more than "just a fairy-tale"; rather, it's an effective tool that helps develop kids' imaginative abilities and shape their imaginations.

“Through media, children may encounter hate speech, sexual imagery or scary news, among other things. Children may also hear and learn profanities or double entendres they may not entirely understand” (Children and media.2017.11)

By going through the book, it also mentioned the parents’ high attention for children. They utilize media, being exposed to different types of inappropriate information is an anxiety. As well as this includes learning swear words or double meanings which they could not fully understand, not only that they are encountering hate speech, sexual imagery, or disturbing news. For maintaining their wellbeing and encouraging good digital citizenship, parents want to maintain a close touch with children and must provide guidance on their kids' media intake.

In my view, if parents set up guidelines for their kids' media consumption, it may have a big impact on their academic growth and prepare them with the knowledge and abilities they need to survive in the changing digital environment.

  1. As you said in your blog, it always comes down to parents and how should they guide their children to use digital media safely.
